HAYDEN — Corner was unable to formulate any sort of offense for the vast majority of the game at Hayden Friday night.
The Wildcats (3-5, 2-3) took advantage of three interceptions and a fumble recovery created by Corner’s offensive struggles to win the game, 32-15.
The problems with Corner’s offense, however, did not seem to stem from the rushing game.
Nicholas Brashear and Garrett Purvis shared the handoffs to give two impressive performances. Brashear collected 88 yards on 17 carries, and Purvis rushed for 98 yards on only 12 attempts and scored both of Corner’s touchdowns.
Still, the rushing duo for Corner could not make up for the four turnovers.
Quarterback Collin Daniel completed 6 of 11 passes for 36 yards and two interceptions. Of the three interceptions thrown by Corner throughout the game, all three were picked off by Collin Chappel.
Chappel also scored eight of the Wildcat’s points on a 24 yard touchdown pass which was immediately followed by another for a two-point conversion. Both passes were thrown by Silas Miller.
The Wildcats drained the game clock by using a rushing attack consisting of five different players, Andrew Woodard, Connor Jackson, Evan Orr, Jeremiah Burrow, and Justin Goolsby, for a combined 207 yards and two touchdowns.
The long drives by Hayden made way for Corner’s defensive stars to shine. Joshua Myrick led the team with 14 tackles, and Paxton Rainer followed behind with six of his own. Other defensive playmakers include Hunter Harper and Skyler Trawick who both made interceptions to give the offense a fighting chance.
Corner (3-4, 2-3) will have little time to lick its wounds following this loss as West Point will be visiting Jacket Stadium next Friday. As for Hayden, the Wildcats will travel to Dora this coming week for the first ever meeting between the teams.
