CORDOVA — Cordova running back Aiden Gay had an admirable performance despite the Blue Devils’ loss to Fayette County on Friday night, rushing for 109 yards on only 12 attempts and finding the end zone on a 63-yard break-away run.
However, the Cordova Blue Devils were unable to land their first victory falling to Fayette County 35-13 at Hudson-Kirby Stadium.
Tigers quarterback Blake Wallace went 7 of 12 for 118 yards through the air as he picked apart the Cordova defensive backfield before being benched for most of the second half. Wallace connected with Tre’Darion Walker for a short touchdown from the goal-line in one of his final plays of the game with only 1:50 left in the first half.
Walker also had an explosive night, returning a punt for a 65-yard touchdown and gaining 41-yards receiving. Fayette County had a variety of representation to find the end zone including Jason Robinson who amassed 111 yards rushing on only seven carries, and Zachary Ingle who scored a couple of his own touchdowns despite ending the night with only six rushing-yards.
The Tigers defense stood strong for most of the game, allowing no points until the final quarter. Zachary Jackson led the defensive pack with four tackles, and Kendrick Moore, Myron Swanigan, Parker Holliman, and T’Marvic Smith followed close behind with three tackles each.
Gay consisted of much of Cordova’s total offense and averaged nine yards per carry. Fellow running back Jolan Patmon also added points to the scoreboard with an 18-yard touchdown run of his own. Patmon finished the night with 56 rushing yards.
Quarterback Kason Smith located Jordan Perrin, Aiden Gay, Jared Phillips, and Justin Wallace for connections throughout the night but could not find much success against the Tigers dominant defensive backs. Smith finished 5 of 10 for 29 yards through the air, and rushing for 16 yards on two carries.
Dawson Pate and Jared Phillips led the Blue Devils defense on the other side of the ball. Pate collected four tackles while Phillips had a similar game with three tackles.
Cordova (0-4, 0-2)) hosts Northside in another region game next week.
